Opportunities for promoting recycling society in the universities and other teaching spaces environments: the paper recovery and recycling case

From the analysis of paper and paperboarde collection systems of 14 Spanish universities, the report provides an useful guide for the cooperation between universities on how sharing experiences of sustainable development. Given the commitment to make Europe a recycling society, this study is promoting good practice in waste paper collection in universities, and serves as a channel for the cooperation between public administrations, institutions, citizens and the industry itself.
The universities included in the study are those of Granada, Zaragoza, Illes Balears, Salamanca, Leon, Barcelona, Politècnica de Catalunya, Santiago de Compostela, Alcalá de Henares, Autonomous Region of Madrid, Carlos III de Madrid, Murcia, Jaume I of Castelló and Politècnica de Valencia. These centers are totaling 441,038 students, over 26% of college students in the country. The used paper and cardboard collected for recycling in these fourteen universities is already over 2.5 million kilos a year, representing more than 5 kilos per student. (Document in Spanish)
