In total 1,020 plants - 175 pulp mills and 845 paper and board mills - which provide direct employment to 227,565 people and a production turnover of 227.565 billion Euros. Pulp production at 35.9 million tonnes accounts for 21.6% of total world production, while paper and board output at 88.7 million tonnes represents 25.3% of the world total.
